Maddison Ash & Mark Hamilton on She Brings The Rain |
I'm sure there comes a stage in every DSLR video enthusiasts learning progression where they feel they are ready to take on the production of, or at least the camera work for a music video.
As it turns out, 2011 was my year to join the ranks and 'She Brings The Rain' was the song I did it for. This was my first end to end production in the music video genre, and in the spirit of independent (should I also mention zero budget) motion production I had my hand in every step of the process from scripting through to post. Sam Korn, the award winning singer/songwriter from Erica Owns the Sky was keen to give me a shot on this one, needless to say I grabbed the opportunity as soon as it presented itself. I certainly did not do this single handedly, I was fortunate to have the help of an enthusiastic team of friends who each brought something to the table and had a go at some of these roles themselves just for the experience. This project was a weekend pursuit and everyone happily volunteered their spare time to help out over the course of about 7 weekends at various locations. Video production isn't how I earn a living, in fact it consumes much of that living on equipment expenses. The same goes for each and every person that volunteered their time on this project, we all have day jobs to go to. Anyway, this isn't intended to be a 'How we made it' post, you can search the blog archive for those. Instead ... here's the video for you to watch.Auki ™ & Auki Henry Photography © 2011

Jessica Shalders in what is my favourite shot of the afternoon. |
LABELS: Battlefield 3 Beta, BF3 Beta, BF3 Beta Issues, BF3 Beta Problems,
Well I am relieved to find out my hardware runs the game or at least BF3 Beta on ULTRA with no problems so no upgrade needed yet! (can spend the money on a new lens system instead to help with the new music video) But I do have one problem - mostly due to the fact that I use my mouse for forward/back movement and the bindings in the alpha don't seem to be changeable.
Good news is I can probably use something like Logitech Setpoint to assign spare keyboard keys to my mouse buttons and then bind those keys in game. Will have to test this when I get home after filming tonight though . . . work seems to get in the way when interesting stuff is on . . .

Huangshan city mirage in a nutshell, just a winning combination of bad translation and sensationalist reporting. Huangshan City in Anhui Province, China was one city out of a number affected by the 2011 flooding in 12 or 13 provinces. By the 14th June 2011 the water had exceeded warning levels in reservoirs and inundated the city.

Incredibly, video footage of the floods, as they claimed low lying areas of the city were broadcast and sensationalised by western media who misreported an all too literal translation of the interpretation describing the amazing wet and misty weather framing the scenery.
Perhaps ironically it is the 'Chinese Whispers' phenomenon at play here but the story became one of insanely amazing mirages, the clarity of which has never been seen before. It was circulated via news websites presumably in the same hurried fashion that does away with any cross checking of facts and the youtube videos went viral, along with the emergence of the inevitable conspiracy theories of hologram technology and otherworldy portals. In fact the truth is somewhat a little more mundane than the fiction, the 'floating' buildings suspended in mist above the river as described by the majority of news sites are actually nothing more than the buildings which are already currently in existence as seen THROUGH the fog, the 'floating' trees are explained by nothing more mysterious than the river having swollen and flooded low lying ground. For easy identification the coloured key and identifiable landmarks are marked for you with the corresponding slides from the video. Internet hype and misinformation sure spreads quickly in this day and age!Video Frame 1 with yellow key identifiable landmarks |

Description: This beautiful sample shot actually had a little story behind it. Literally the same day it was put up it had my signature cut out of it and claimed a somone elses. Bound to happen sooner or later, and I am not overly concerned as my shots are reasonably well known around the place.
